Understanding File Paths

Within Ideate ExportHub there are several opportunities to set a file path value to control where the export content will be created. In this topic we will cover each path option and how they relate to each other.

#1 Batch ExportPackage > Subpackage Path

Within each package there will be one or more subpackage(s). By default the subpackage path will match the path of the package with these exceptions:

If the value of the subpackage is changed from <Default> the specified path will be used
When the subfolder option is used, the subpackage files will be written to a subfolder (whether it exists yet or not) underneath the subpackage path.

#2 Batch Export Package > Package Path

The Path noted for the package will be the valid root folder for the exports unless the subpackage paths have specified values for Path. If the value is <Default> then the value will be read from the Project Export Location (#5). If that value is not yet set the value will come from the Location (#4) value.

Tips:

When a new package is created the value will be <Default>, which is recommended for consistency.
When a package is created from Quick Export, the value for the path will match the Quick Export path. It can be changed to <Default> by deleting the path value.

#3 Project Export Location

This value is empty by default. When a new path is selected for the Project Export Location, that value is saved in the Revit project and becomes the default value for any Quick Export. The Project Export path, once saved, will be used as the default path for both Quick Export and any new Batch Export package. Changing the value here does not impact any saved Batch Export package.

The Reset button restores the empty value, allowing the local user Location path take precendence for Quick Exports.

Tip: It is recommended that each project have a unique value set for the Project Export Location to set the expected location for all users within that project. This also facilitates integration with Ideate Automation.

#4 Location

This value will be set by default to the equivalent of the %userprofile% and indicates where the Quick Export will files will be saved unless a Project Export Location is specified, in which case that location takes precendence. This value is saved within the Ideate ExportHub.settings file which is located here by default: %userprofile%\AppData\Local\Ideate\Settings

NOTE: A change to the Location path will take effect during the next Revit session.

#5 Quick Export > Path

The value for “Path” under Quick Export controls the location for the file output and can be easily changed by the current user. The default value is read from the Export Settings>Location (see #4 below) and originally defaults to the current user’s “Document” folder
