Enable Logging in Ideate Software
All Ideate Software solutions have the ability to log user activity and save it as a text file for diagnostic purposes.
By default, Logging is turned OFF after your Ideate Software has been installed. However, it is important to turn know how to enable Logging when an Ideate Support representative has requested that you do so.
IMPORTANT: The Log settings are unique to each Ideate Software tool! One setting covers all IdeateApps but for other tools (Explorer, BIMLink, Sticky, Style Manager, Automation) the Log setting is specific to each tool.
If your software product launches successfully:
- Start your Ideate product from the Ideate Software ribbon in Revit (with any Revit model open).
- Go to the top right corner drop-down menu.
- Select ‘About Ideate [your product]’.
- Check the box in the lower left to enable ‘Diagnostic Mode’.
- Close and restart your Ideate software, then reproduce the issue.
The Log file will be created in: C:\Users\[username]\AppData\Local\Ideate\Ideate Software 20[##]\Logs. It will be named with your product name and today’s date.
Note: The AppData folder may be hidden on your PC. This Microsoft video explains how to un-hide it.
Within the same Revit session, the log file contents get incremented. A new Ideate log is started for every new Revit session. We recommend that you disable logging after the troubleshooting is finished.
If your software product does not launch into the main UI:
- Navigate to C:\Users\[username]\AppData\Local\Ideate\Settings
Note: The AppData folder may be hidden on your PC. This Microsoft video explains how to un-hide it.
- Open the “.settings” file (in Notepad)
- Find the line: “<InDiagnosticMode>False</InDiagnosticMode>“
- Change the “False” to “True” so it will look like this: <InDiagnosticMode>True</InDiagnosticMode>
- Save the settings file and try to start your Ideate Software Product to create the log file.
