Area Views Method

The Element Views > Area Method in Ideate ViewCreator enables Revit users to automatically batch create views (optionally sheets) based on selected Area elements. This method is ideal for generating Area Plans that align with your project's area schemes, such as Gross Building or Rentable areas.

  1. Launch Ideate ViewCreator: Open Ideate ViewCreator from the IdeateApps tab in Revit. Choose the Element View Method and then select Area Views Method.

  2. Select Area Elements Type: Use Revit’s selection tools to choose the Area elements you want to generate views for. You can select Areas manually or use the search Areas or schemes.

  3. Choose a Rule: Select a predefined rule or create a custom one. Rules define how views are named, what templates are applied. By default, when using the Element Views method, the rule “Default – Element Views” is automatically selected. You may edit this rule or define a new one to meet your specific documentation and naming conventions. The increment for example might not be needed for Area naming rules, you can edit the rule and remove it.

  4. Optional Sheet Placement: Once the views are created, sheets can optionally be generated and the views placed on sheet.

There are two layout options available as shown below. The choice here will impact whether or not the newly created views will also be placed on a sheet. You can learn more about the Layout Rule or Clone Sheet layouts in this topic: Layout Options

After the layout option is selected, the next step is to Preview & Create the views.

  5. Place Views on Sheet: You have an option to place all views in one sheet, or one view per sheet. Here are the results:

  6. View boundaries in Ideate ViewCreator can be adjusted by configuring view heights and offsets within the settings. These settings also allow you to manage the rule library and control the visibility of graphical elements. Any changes made will be stored as default values for all future views created using ViewCreator. Learn more about customizing these options.
