Auditing both the Revit Model and Detail Groups is an important task for project health and can be accomplished using Ideate Explorer. Look for Groups that are poorly named (Group 1, Group 2, etc.) and also look for many instances (10+) of the same group. Ask the question, could this Group be a Family (.RFA) instead? The family will tend to behave better and will improve file performance over the use of the Group. Not all Groups are good fits for families; unit plans, for example, will need to remain as Groups, but elements that represent a single data category (Furniture, Equipment, Casework, Lighting) should most likely be represented as a family rather than as a Group.
