Create New Scope Boxes

New scope box elements can be created in Revit as a duplicate of one or more scope boxes that are already defined within a linked Revit file.

The example below uses the sample files that are included with Revit 2024+ to illustrate the workflow.

  1. Open Revit then select File>Open>Sample Files>Snowden Towers Sample Architectural.rvt
  2. Start Ideate BIMLink
  3. Select New… then pick Browse on the left
  4. From the 04 Create Elements folder, use the Search function to find link definitions that include “Scope”

  1. Select Scope_Boxes-IMPORT then Next>
  2. BIMLink will display the 16 scope boxes that exist in the linked files, sorted by linked file id.
  3. On the Filters Tab clear the existing filter to also see the scope boxes within the parent file.
  4. Because of the duplicately named scope boxes, it will be useful to add the name of the linked file:
    • From the Select available properties from: list, select RVT Link
    • Search for Name to add the property called RVT Link Type: File Name then select and use Add to include this property

  1. Select Done then Export to save the data to Excel.
  2. Open the Excel file
  3. Find the scope boxes called Block 35, Block 37, and Block 43 from the Snowden Towers Sample HVAC.rvt file and:
    • Copy the information from those three rows to the bottom of the list.
    • In the Id column, set the value to NEW
    • Delete the RVT Link Type: File Name values
  4. Save the Excel file then use BIMLink to import this data back into the project.
