    Naming Rules within Ideate ExportHub are used to control the names of the exported files, ensuring that corporate standards and client deliverables can meet expectations. While Revit is able to control the PDF naming rules, with some limitations, with Ideate ExportHub you’ll be able to extend that same functionality (and more) to all file types, including DWGs so that naming requirements, such as ISO 19650.

    NOTE: Ideate ExportHub uses Naming Rules for all file types, including PDF.

    In this topic we will cover how to customize naming rules which can then be used with any of the supported filed types.

    To customize the Naming Rules, start from the cog, as shown above, and pick Naming Rules to to create, modify, import, export, and delete rules within the active Revit project. When creating rules there are three types of ‘parts’ that can be added under the “Add a Part” area within this dialog:

    In the steps below we will create a new View-based naming rule intended for Navisworks and IFC export types. Our goal will be to create a filename with this format: [date] [filename] [view name]

    1. Select the new button at right then pick which rule type, pick Views.
    2. Edit the Rule Name to NWC-IFC
    3. To add the Date field, select the Variable button, then pick the option for Date.
    4. Next add a space by picking the Constant button. In the value, use your keyboard to add a space. This could also be a dash, underbar, or other separator.
    5. Next pick the Variable button again and select the Revit File Name.
    6. Repeat step 4 to add another space or separator.
    7. To add the name of the view, select the Parameter button, then use the Search area to find the View Name parameter. You can include your own shortened value for the Name field, such as “view”. Your new rule should look similar to the example below:
