    Does Ideate SmartDelete Manage Dependent Views in Revit?

    Yes! With Ideate QuickSelect you can quickly show all views that are not currently placed on a sheet. You may think that you can easily delete all these views without issues, however, some of these views that are not currently placed on a sheet may have “dependent” views that ARE on the sheet. If you delete the “parent” view, all the dependent views will also be deleted. It’s always best to check BEFORE you delete. Use Ideate QuickSelect to find all the views that have NOT been placed on a sheet.

    Once you select these views, start Ideate SmartDelete to check that there are no dependent views that have been placed on a sheet. In this example we see there are dependent views, so it’s NOT safe to delete the Level 1 Floor Plan view.

    Can I Replace The Delete Key with Ideate SmartDelete?

    The short answer to this question is ‘not yet’. Refer to the Setting Shortcuts topic for related information on increasing the usage of this important (for liability) tool.

    Can Ideate SmartDelete Find Views with Deleted Elements?

    Absolutely (if the element has been dimensioned or tagged in any way)! Visit the How To Use Ideate SmartDelete for Revit topic to learn about this and other workflow questions.

    How Are Pinned Elements Handled?

    Ideate SmartDelete uses the regular Revit delete process and therefore will treat pinned elements as Revit would: a warning is provided and the pinned element, along with any dependents, will not be deleted. If there are other, un-pinned elements that were also selected for deletion at the same time, they will be successfully deleted.

    How Are Hosted Elements Handled?

    Ideate SmartDelete does not provide information about elements that are about to be orphaned by a deletion. However, the Reconcile Host tool within Revit provides an excellent way to keep on top of elements that have been orphaned. Learn more about the Reconcile Hosting tool within Revit.

    Will Ideate SmartDelete Show Me Nested Family Information?

    Yes!  Ideate SmartDelete can be used to review Revit families for nested family components if the nested family component has been set to shared status.
