Available Properties

Ideate BIMLink provides access to many kinds of properties available from the Revit model.

Built-in Revit Parameters

The properties include Revit system parameters defined for each category. Many of the built-in parameters are viewable with Revit Properties Palette. See Revit menu: Modify Tab ► Properties Panel► (Properties)

Project-Based Revit Parameters

These properties include Project Parameters and Shared Parameters associated with user-selected categories in a Revit project. See Revit menu: Manage Tab ► Setting Panel ► (Project Parameters)

Family-Based Revit Parameters

These properties include Family Parameters (non-shared) and Shared Parameters associated with a particular Revit family. See Revit menu: Family Editor ►Home Tab ►Properties Panel► (Family Types)

NOTE: Multi-Category links do not include Family Parameters unless they are Shared Parameters.

Custom Ideate Properties for Revit

In order to support the creativity of Ideate Software customers additional custom properties are available within Ideate Software solutions. These properties are derived from the Revit model and are not available with a Revit schedule. This list below includes just some of the custom properties available. General Custom Properties

Family and Type: while this is also a Revit property, this particular property can be used to "swap" one element for another element within Ideate BIMLink. Learn more about "Type Swapping".
Type Usage Count: returns the total number of instances within the project per the specified Type or "Family and Type" value. Refer to the Sample Links called "Wall-Types_Used" and "Mechanical_Equipment_Types-Used" as examples of how this property may be used. See also How can I only export types that are in use?

Wall Custom Properties

Orientation: The orientation of a wall relative to project north.
True North Orientation: The orientation of a wall relative to true north.

Spatial Custom Properties

Properties related to Room and Space elements

Box_Lowerleft, Box_Upper right, Line1, Line2, Point (X, Y, Z)
Room and Space data from linked file elements. Refer to Report Revit Linked Files and Room Data with Ideate BIMLink

Room related properties on View elements

Elevation Room Name, Elevation Room Number. Refer to Audit Revit Room and Space Data Related to View References with Ideate BIMLink
Elevation Space Name, Elevation Space Number.

Sheet/View Custom Properties

The "SEQx" properties that relate to the Sheets: Revision on Sheet property. Learn more about Sheet-based Revisions.
The Sheet/View Set properties used to manage Revit Sheet and Revit View Sets. Refer to Manage Sheet/View Sets
“Sheet Element Count” returns the number of views, schedules, legends, or images that are placed on a sheet. This property can also be used as a filter to assess how many sheets are not yet used in a project. Related topic: Filtering Examples

Revit Workset Properties

Ideate BIMLink includes support for the data category for Worksets. This category, which is not supported via Revit Schedules includes a variety of properties, including one called “Number of Elements”. This property returns the value of all elements within the workshared model that belong to the specified workset. You can find this in the sample link definition called HC-Worksets which is part of the Ideate Health Check workflow.

In many instances this number will be higher than what Ideate Explorer or Ideate BIMLink report. See below for a detailed explanation.

In the example above, Ideate Explorer, shown on the left, is using the Workset Sort by option. The User-Created worksets contain elements that can be assigned to a workset by the user. In the project shown, Explorer indicates that there are 7,333 elements in Workset 1 while in BIMLink, shown at the right, the data returned by the Revit API indicates 12,463. The reasons for the discrepancy are that the API method (BIMLink) includes elements that are not applicable within Ideate Explorer such as sketch lines, constraints, conduit runs, curtain panel placeholders (made when subdividing panels),etc. These are intentionally excluded by Ideate Explorer because they will return “No good view could be found” which can create a performance problem while searching and adds little value to the functionality of Explorer.

Key Schedule Properties

The properties available to links based on a key schedule are driven exclusively by the parameters defined within the associated Revit key schedule. For more information, see Revit Key Schedules.
