Filter

The Filter drop-down provides another way to further refine the elements found in the Results. There are two kinds of filters available in the drop-down: Built-In and Ideate Filters.

Built-In Filters

There are three built-in filters (#1 in the image above) found on the Explore tab: <Annotation>, <Model>, and <Ideate Audit>. The <Ideate Audit> filter contains the list of Revit categories that require the special attention of the BIM Manager. It’s recommended that this list be reviewed on a weekly basis to ensure quality control of the Revit project.

Refer to Project Auditing for more information on <Ideate Audit>.

There are four hard-wired filters found on the Navigate tab: <Legends>, <Schedules>, <Sheets> and <Views>.

Ideate Filters

Ideate Filters (#2 in the above image) provide a dynamic, customizable, and rule-based method to quickly filter Revit model elements based on your specified parametric conditions. These filters are similar to a Revit filter, but have greater access to the Revit data and include custom properties not available to Revit Filters. Learn more in this help topic: Ideate Filters

NOTE: Sheet and View-based custom filters can be used within Ideate Explorer, but only while on the Explore tab.

Selection Filter Tool

The Selection Filter tool is designed to make element selection easier by limiting the selectable elements to only those elements that are defined by the active Filter. This tool is designed to work in non-3d views.

  1. Open a plan view and pick a filter such as the  <Model> filter to make it active.
  2. Pick the Select Filter tool to start a selection box.
  3. Make a selection window in the Revit drawing area by picking the lower-right corner as shown below.
  4. Pick the upper-left corner as shown.

The results of the selection will be limited to model elements only. In the example below only the two columns will be selected by the crossing window, while the tags and grids will be ignored.

Selection Tips

Picking the upper right #4 first and then the lower-right (#3) also works and includes only elements that are wholly inside of the crossing window and comply with the filter rules.

This option, along with the Select by Category right-click option, are designed to maintain the previously selected items. When the selection window occurs, the current selection state will temporarily turn off (uncheck) but after the selection window is completed the previously selected items along with the new results will display.
