    • Customizing Ideate Annotate for Revit

    IdeateApps includes three kinds of customizable content each with sample content to help you get started. This content is a great starting point for any future customization you may need including the use of custom parameters or other custom template settings you may want to use. In this topic learn how to customize each of these types of content:

    All sample content is saved as small XML files which can be opened with Notepad or other text editors. To learn more about managing rules, review this topic: Tag Rule Management.     Custom Filter Rules  ▲   ▼

    New Filter Rules can be created from the Manage Rules dialog shown below.

    Select the Data Category

    Note: When <Multi-Category> or <Sketch> are selected, the rule can be further refined by filtering on the Revit Category shown on the left side of the Filters pane shown below.

    For our example we want a rule that applies to both Dimensions and Text Notes.

    Select the Property Filters

    The Category: choice that is made will determine the list of available Property Filters.

    Select the property Is Pinned and set the Condition to true. This is a great example of a property in Revit that isn’t accessible from the Revit UI.

    Set the Phasing information

    The Phase and Phase Filter built-in Revit attributes can be used to further refine the list of filtered elements. Setting the values to All Phases and None as shown above will ensure that all elements are included, regardless of phase.

    The available properties will default to those that are Instance based. For more advanced Filter Rules, this can be changed via a drop-down list at the bottom of the dialog. This property list is identical to the properties available within Ideate BIMLink.

    When more than one filter property is used, be sure to consider the checkbox option for Elements Must Pass All Filters. When this is checked an “AND” condition is created instead of an “OR” condition (unchecked).
    In the example below, the built-in Rule named Tags — Free End is being modified to only apply to the Revit Categories Flex Ducts and Flex Pipes.

    After making any edits to the filter rule, use the Save and Close to save it within the active project only. Use the Export option within Manage Filter Rules to save the filter for use in another project.

    A Display Filter, which is available within IdeateApps>Annotate from both the Browse and Review tabs, can be used to limit the list of Views and/or Sheets that are included in the results. The sample display filter rule called “Sheets-Rev1”, for example, displays all annotative elements that exist on sheets or views that are on sheets, that have the Current Revision property equal to Revision Sequence #1. This can be useful in providing focus to the Annotate>Review process by only providing feedback on problems that relate to that issuance. This will also improve performance for the annotative clash portion.

    The display filter rules are similar to the Custom Filter Rules but they apply only to Sheets or View data categories and have a few additional options.

    Include placed views

    The option to include placed views applies only to Sheet-based display filters. When this option is checked, which is recommended, the list will include any view that is placed on a sheet. When a dependent view is placed on a sheet this list will also include the parent so that all annotation can be properly review (the annotative elements ‘live’ on the parent).

    Include non-view specific annotation

    The option to include non-view specific annotation applies to both Sheet and View-based display filters. Non-view specific annotations include datum elements such as grids and levels as well as view references such as elevation markers. Because these elements can exist on many views it may make sense to exclude them (leave unchecked) when creating a custom display filter.

    Custom Tag Rules  ▲ 

    Ideate Annotate contains approximately 20 sample tag rules that will automatically load into the project if not other rules have previously been loaded and if there are corresponding tag families in the project. You can manually load these rules by selecting the cog in the upper-right as shown, the selecting the Import Rules button. In the example below only 6 rules have been loaded because only Door, Duct, Flex Duct, and Space tag families exist within the project.

    These rules can be duplicated to make variations or you can start from scratch to make a custom rules.

    To edit an existing tag rule then select the edit icon.
