Create from Scratch

Ideate ViewCreator includes many workflows that support batch creating new views from existing views. The Create from Scratch method supports the creation of new views based on solely on view types or view templates along with a selection of level, and scope box. This method also supports the creation of dependent views.

View Type versus View Template Method

After selecting the Create from Scratch method from the main Ideate ViewCreator dialog, as shown above, the Select Family and Type method is displayed by default on the main tab as shown below. Select one or more plan-based Family and View Type from the available and list. New views will inherit view properties from the selected type(s). If the view type also has a value for “View Template applied to new view” those specified view template properties will also be applied.

To create views per a selection of available view template(s), switch the tab to Select View Templates as shown below. New views will inherit view properties from the selected view templates. If there is more than one applicable view type, the earliest created view type will be used (lowest Element Type Id). In the image below, for example, both the Architectural Reflected Ceiling Plan and the Electrial Ceiling view templates will both result in the Architectural Ceiling Plan view type.

TIP: To ensure greater control over the new view properties, we recommend using the Select Family and Type method, above, ensuring that the “View Template applied to new view” value is set to a desired view template within each view type.

Select Levels and Optional Scope Boxes

After using either the Select Family and Type or Select View Templates method, pick Next, then decide which of the existing levels are needed.

After selecting one or more level for the new plan-based view(s), select Next to optionally select from the list of available Scope Boxes. The total number of views to be created will be the number of types (or templates) multiplied by the number of selected levels multiplied by the number of scope boxes.

Creating Dependent Views Based on Scope Boxes

Along the bottom of the Select Scope Boxes dialog there is a checkbox option called “Make new views dependent” as shown below. This option allows one of the available scope boxes to be specified as the Parent View Scope Box. The other scope boxes will be used to create dependent views after the parent view is created.
